Many people like to use CC force motion blur to still be able to achieve motion blur on some effects. Unfortunately, CC force motion blur is really slow, and is one of the biggest bottlenecks in RAM previewing. You can uncheck the CC force motion blur effect when you're RAM previewing and put it back on when you're going to render it out, but that can get tedious when you got a big project with a lot of layers. What I usually like cc force motion blur do is to create a null and drop a slider effect on that.
You can use that slider to control the CC force motion blur samples. Simply go to your CC force motion blur effect, alt click on the samples stopwatch and pickwhip it to the slider on the null. I usually use samples for RAM previews. When I'm going to do my final render I use 32 samples for a smooth result. Pixel motion blur gives funky results, where CC force motion blur works like a charm without even precomposing. Also really usefull when you use E3D a lot for instance.
Pickwhipping stuff to control nulls is great in general. Any time I have a lot of similar things like long shaddows, drop shaddows, colours, etc which are going to be used and identical throughout a project I pickwhip it to a nul. That way later I can for example change the cc force motion blur of all the shadows in one go, or change colours of crap wihtout having to go cc force motion blur through every time. This is great for me cause I'm bad at choosing so i'll have to go through a few iterations before i'm pleased.
